Goodbye 2006, Goodbye Euroblog

New Years Eve was a busy night. In Berlin, over 600 separate housefires were attended to by the city's fire service - including one in the roof of the apartment block of the mayor, Klaus Wowereit (SPD). Wowi did the honourable thing in the emergency - running from door-to-door evacuating citizens. The cause of all the damage? That most dangerous of German addictions - fireworks.

At the other end of the country, this author celebrated a slightly more peaceful New Years Eve (or as they call it here, "Sylvester"). The time away from the spotlight allowed him to reconsider the year that was and make the traditional "resolutions". Resolution number 12 was: to keep on engaging with life and spend less time on the fr#%king computer.

Never fear, the enthusiasm for news, the thrill of the paparazzi chase, the appreciation for the uglier sides of Berlin architecture - it's all still there, burning inside. Alas, Euroblog will not be though. For now at least anyway. al
